William Campbell ’32

Body

BILL O'NEIL, another of our eminent lawyer classmates, died Sept. 8, 1992, after a long, brave struggle with cancer.

After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1935, Bill began practicing law in Pittsburgh with Thorp, Reed and Armstrong; and with the exception of Navy service in WWII, he spent his entire professional life with that firm. He was a partner from 1949 until his retirement 30 years later.

He was a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny County bar associations, a former trustee and eider of the Shadyside Presbyterian Church, a trustee emeritus of the Shadyside Hospital, and a director of the Pittsburgh and Ohio Valley Railroad, the Visiting Nurse Assn., the Child Guidance Center, and several other organizations.

An avid sportsman, Bill was for 17 years jointmaster and huntsman of the Ligonier Valley Beagles. A fine trout fisherman, he spent many happy hours on the Rolling Rock stream near their home in Ligonier. He was a member of the New York Anglers Club and the local Princeton Club.

The Class extends its deep sympathy to "Polly," his wife of 58 years; his daughters Barbara O'Neil Roder and Joan O'Neil Dugdale; his grandson William Campbell Dugdale; and his granddaughter Devon Thompson Dugdale.

We all mourn the loss of this fine citizen.
