William Condell Moore ’26

BILL MOORE, longtime Summit, N.J., resident, died of cancer Nov. 27, 1993, at age 89. At Princeton, Bill majored in history, played in the band, and was a member of Cloister. He worked for the General Adjustment Bureau for 25 years, then joined the Continental Insurance Co. of N.Y.C., from which he retired as a V.P. in 1967. In WWII, Bill was a It. commander stationed in the Pacific. He flew close to 100,000 miles and touched 51 bases on many small islands and Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Japan.

In 1928, Bill married Mildred Thomas. After Mildred's death in 1966, Bill married Laura Mell Stith, who died in 1980. He subsequently married Barbara Tracy Maclay.

At heart, Bill was a writer, although he said railroads were his hobby. He wrote several books, one on insurance adjustments, and another entitled HISTORY OF SERVICE FORCE, PACIFIC for the navy. He coauthored a pictorial book on U.S. battleships, He had a library of over 2,000 volumes, and corresponded with more than 200 persons. Princeton was also one of Bill's interests. He was a loyal class member, and remembered Princeton substantially in his will.

We extend our sympathy to Barbara and a daughter Marcia C. Bain, a second daughter and a son having predeceased Bill, and also to nine grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
