Bill died Aug. 31, 2024, in San Francisco, with his family by his side.

He grew up in San Francisco and came to Princeton from Phillips Andover Academy. He majored in Romance languages, ate at Tower Club, played freshman soccer, was active in IAA sports, and participated in Air Force ROTC. His father was Princeton 1925 and one of his children was Princeton ’86.

Following graduation, Bill served five years in the Air Force, mostly in Panama as aide-de-camp to a major general and rising to the rank of captain. He then earned one of the first MBA/JD joint degrees at the University of California, Berkeley. He began his career in the law at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro, where he became a partner in 1979, and then moved to Morrison & Foerster, where he established the firm’s Palo Alto office and became a leading attorney representing high tech firms, particularly in their IPOs, including Intel, Tandem, and Compaq. Bill always claimed his true love was teaching and served almost 40 years as an adjunct lecturer at Berkeley’s Haas Business School.

Bill and his second wife, Vickie, whom he married in 1982, enjoyed traveling following his retirement, as well as escaping to their cabin in the Sierras. His many hobbies included beekeeping and both model and full-size boat building.

The class extends our condolences to Vickie, their four children, and six grandchildren.
