William Douglas Neal ’40

He prepared at Friends Central School in Philadelphia. At Princeton he majored in chemical engineering, attaining second-group honors, and was a member of Court Club.

During World War II, Doug was a Navy lieutenant, serving as the radar officer on the U.S.S. Montour in the Pacific theater.

He spent 44 years with Union Carbide in various chemical engineering and industrial-hygiene positions. During that period he received certification in the American Academy of Industrial Hygiene.

Doug will be remembered for his intelligence, wit, and unselfish and loving ways. He noted in the 40th yearbook his particular pleasure in spending time with his family and friends at Skytop in the Poconos.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Winifred Horel Neal; their children, Linda Nealon, Cindy Carpenter, Laura Wilhelm, Andrea, and Bill Jr.; and the extended family. To them all, his classmates wish to extend their sincere sympathies.
