William F. Burrow Jr. ’61

Bill Burrow died Oct. 9, 2010, in Austin, Texas.  

Born in Dallas, Bill came to Princeton from St. Mark’s School. At Princeton he majored in English, ate at Tiger Inn, and roomed all four years with Fred Bishop.  

Following Yale Law School, Bill served in the Army before returning to Dallas to practice with Golden, Burrow & Potts. In 1989 he founded Sage Land Co., a leading real-estate investment company in Austin. Bill’s obituary said that “his family is steeped in Texas history” and “he was an active member of every community in which he lived.” Neither comes close to describing the life of this remarkable man. He served on the boards of numerous schools, arts, and civic organizations and was honored with a senate proclamation in his memory from the State of Texas.

His wife of 36 years, Jan, said, “Bill loved Princeton and Tiger Inn. His Princeton days were his fondest memories. He was looking forward to the 50th.” He is survived by Jan; his daughters, Carolyn Barber ’86, Cynthia Conger ’89, Elizabeth Farley, and Katherine Rupp; and their families. With them, we will miss this son of Texas.
