William G. Berlinger Jr. ’39

Bill died Feb. 1, 2010, at Bryn Mawr Hospital near his home in Gladwyne, Pa.

After college, Bill worked briefly as an executive trainee at Sharp & Dohme. During World War II, as lieutenant commander in the Office of Naval Intelligence, he served as a courier in Canada, Africa, and India for the Navy. He also served as a White House aide under President Franklin Roosevelt. He met his future wife, Ruth Bisping, at the Sulgrave Club in Washington in 1944.

After the war, Bill worked 59 years as a senior partner in the Philadelphia investment firm of Elkins & Co., which eventually merged with Prudential Securities, where he became a vice president. He served on the board of governors of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange and as a director of the Quaker City Gear Works.
Bill was on the board of trustees of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church. He spent his summers on Lake Sunapee, N.H., where he most enjoyed his precious times with Ruth and their family. He served Princeton as a Special Gifts solicitor, among other positions.

Bill is survived by Ruth, his wife of 65 years; their two daughters; two sons; and their families. To them all, we offer our sincere sympathy.
