William G. Thompson ’49

He prepared for Princeton at Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. He majored in English, was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated with high honors. Bill was an associate editor of The Daily Princetonian and secretary of the Bridge Club.

After graduation he earned a master’s degree in English at Emory University before being inducted into the Army. After two years of Army service, Bill returned to academia and received a Ph.D. in 1957. He was teaching English at Vanderbilt University when the class lost touch with him. It was later found that he had become an inventor of games and a conductor of bridge tournaments. He was also an avid follower of the stock market.

Bill had no immediate family.
