William H. Dinsmore ’33

Body

The Class of '33 has suffered a severe loss in the death of Bill Dinsmore, on Aug. 21, 1989, at Point Pleasant Hospital. Bill lived in Bay Head, NJ.

Bill was born on Oct 23, 1911, in Trenton, NJ. He prepared at Andover. In college, he was a member of Charter Club and Phi Beta Kappa. He roomed with Bob Gwinn and Scotty Calahan. After graduation, Bill was a reporter for the Trenton State Gazette, the New York Herald, and the Associated Press. In 1939, he joined the General Electric Co., where he remained, except for service in the Navy, until 1964. At that time, he was manager of the public-relations dept. During WWII, he was captain of a sub chaser in the Mediterranean and a destroyer escort in the Pacific. He attained the rank of lieutenant commander. In 1964, Bill established his own public-relations firm, which served a number of major clients. Bill was a member of several professional and social organizations, and he served as secretary of the class from 1948 to 1953.

On Feb. 17, 1941, Bill married Gertrude Allen, who survives him. Gertrude is well known to classmates. A great many of Bill's relatives were alumni, including his brother, the late B.B. Dinsmore Jr. '25. To Gertrude the Class of '33 extends its profound sympathy.
