William H. Holstein Jr. ’51 *54

Bill came to Princeton after graduating from Mercersburg Academy. He majored in chemical engineering, was the manager of the baseball and wrestling teams, and was a member of Campus Club. His roommates were Dave Emerich and Frank Reichel. Bill continued at Princeton, earning a master’s degree in chemical engineering.
After completing his master’s studies, he joined the DuPont Co., working in Texas, New Jersey, and West Virginia before landing in the Wilmington, Del., headquarters, where he stayed until his retirement. He received patents for dye stabilizers on auto windshields, wrote technical journal articles, and held research and development, production, marketing, and financial positions.
Bill died Dec. 6, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Betty; and his daughter Elizabeth. He is survived by sons William ’77 and Robert, and daughter Barbara ’82.
