William Heath Bannard ’32

Body

BANNARD DIED at his home in Port Orange, Fla., Oct. 28,1990, only six weeks after it was discovered that he had lung cancer.

Bill left us before graduation to go into business and over the years became a computer expert, starting at a time when such people were rare. He learned the trade at R.C.A. in Philadelphia, and then moved to Schenectady, N.Y., to work in the computer program at General Electric. Then, still in computers, he moved to Pratt and Whitney, settling in Coventry, Conn. He later took his computer expertise to the State of Connecticut, advising the Department of Transportation on its bridge and road construction programs. He retired in 1975 and moved to Port Orange, Fla., in 1979. During WWII he served as a major in the Army Air Forces.

Bill was married twice and is survived by his second wife, the former Geraldine Frehn, whom he married in 1957. Also surviving are a son, Barry; three daughters, Abby Manos, Tammy Holley, and Melissa Bannard; and three stepchildren of Geraldine's by a former marriage: Wendy Hulme, George Hebard, and Tracy Straus.

Our sympathies go to them for the loss of this fine classmate of whom we saw all too little in the years since graduation.
