William Hoyt Bedell ’36

BILL DIED May 1, 1991, of a heart attack. He was born June 16, 1913 in White Plains, N.Y.

He prepared at White Plains High School and the Blair Academy, where he played football, basketball and baseball. At Princeton he majored in politics and played varsity football and lacrosse. He was an undergraduate manager of Court Club.

During WWII he served stateside four years in the U.S. Army and in 1946 was honorably discharged as a Lt. Colonel with the Army Commendation Medal.

In his early professional career, he worked for Monroe Calculating Machine Co. Since 1951 he lived in Webster Groves, Mo. and for many years served as Executive V.P. of the Stix, Baer and Fuller Department Stores. He retired in 1978. At Webster Groves he served as chairman of the town's personnel committee from 197388.

Bill is survived by his widow, Agnes Rahn Bedell, whom he married in 1941; daughters Lynne Bechtelheimer and Marilee Kelly; sons Robert P. and Scott W.; and six grandchildren.

We regret not seeing much of Bill in his later years. We will remember his friendly personality and competent abilities. He will be missed.
