William Jerry Boney ’52
SHORTLY AFTER HIS APPOINTMENT as assistant general secretary of the National Council of Churches for Faith and Order, Jerry was diagnosed with an incurable cancer. Having received his appointment in Sept. 1980, he died at his home in Fanwood, NJ., Oct. 28, 1981.
Jerry was committed to the ecumenical movement, and was among the first to call for a worldwide observance of the year 2000. His proposals had been circulated through the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, and the 94 national subgroups throughout the world. His article suggested that it be called, 'Jerusalem H." Clair Randall, general secretary of the N.C,C., said at his funeral, "Jerry made a valuable impact on the concerns of faith and order, and the life of the churches has been enriched by his life and work,"
At Princeton Jerry majored in English and French, and belonged to Quadrangle Club. He devoted four years to the Westminster Fellowship and the Chapel Choir. He graduated from Union Seminary, N.Y., and he earned his Ph.D. from Drew Univ. in 1963.
To Nancy, his widow, and their children, Elizabeth, Thomas, and Paul, we offer our deepest sympathies.
