Body

Bud died peacefully at his home March 19, 2010, surrounded by his loving children.

He grew up in Summit, N.J., and attended the Pingry School. At Princeton, Bud majored in psychology and joined Court Club. In 1946-47, he served in the Army as an announcer for the Armed Forces Radio Service stationed in Osaka, Japan.

In 1953, he earned an M.B.A. from Columbia University. He remained in New York and married Malinda “Lin” Edgington in 1956. They moved to San Francisco, where Bud began a 27-year career in institutional financial-securities sales for Salomon Brothers. In 1967, he opened Salomon’s Los Angeles office and settled his family in San Marino.

In 1982, Bud was a founding partner of Summit Management Co., an investment-advisory firm that was later acquired by U.S. Trust Corp. He managed fixed-income investments until his retirement in 1995.

Bud served as investment officer for the City of San Marino and arbitrator for the NASD. He was a longstanding member of the Bond Club, the City Club, the Table Round, and the Valley Club.

Bud is survived by his four children, William III, John, Charles, and Mary; and six grandchildren. He will be remembered always for his compassionate personality and clever wit, and as a loyal friend and loving father and grandfather.
