William Leslie Dill ’25

BILL DILL was born in Paterson, N.J., Apr. 9, 1903. He came to US from Newark Academy, was on the track team (broad jump), and was a member of the polity, law, and Cannon clubs. Graduating from Harvard Law School, he joined the law firm which later became Stryker, Tanis and Dill, in Newark, N.J., with which he had a distinguished career of 64 years. He served as chairman of the N.J. Bar and president of the Essex County Bar Assn. and was the recipient of many awards, including the Bar Foundation Medal of Honor, for his role in improving the New Jersey legal system.

He served as mayor of Montclair and as president of the Montclair Redevelopment Agency and of the Montclair Art Museum. The local chamber of comerce gave him an award for outstanding leadership. He was an elder of the Central Presbyterian Church and a trustee of the Mountainside Hospital.

He served the Class as treasurer, Annual Giving agent, and executive committee member.

He died in his home in Upper Montclair, after a long illness, on Sept. 14, 1992. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Dorothy Munro; a son William III; four grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Their daughter Bonnie died in 1985.
