William Murphy Walker Jr. ’28

BILL WALKER died in Naples, Fla., on Sept. 13, 1989, after a long period of poor health. He was born in Chicago on May 7, 1904. He graduated from Chicago Latin School. At Princeton he majored in politics and was a member of Charter Club.

After college Bill returned to Chicago and went to work in the family business, W.M. Walker, Inc., wholesale fish merchants. He became president of the company, and after 40 years, retired in 1968. He and his wife had vacationed for many years in Naples, Fla., and settled there in retirement. They had a summer home in Glenview, Ill. In 1988 they moved to the Moorings Park retirement community.

Bill belonged to the Hole-in-the-Wall Golf Club and the Naples Yacht Club and was a member of Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church. He loved golf and fishing and in later years played a lot of bridge. The Walkers took many cruises, including weekends on the East Coast at Palm Beach with Betty and Jim Ebbert (Bill's roommate all through college at Princeton).

Bill married Marjorie (Midge) Boericke in Nov. 1931, and she survives him. Bill's brother Robert Giles Walker '34 is deceased. Bill's classmates are grateful for his warm friendship and extend to Midge their deepest sympathy.
