William O. Master ’26

Body

BILL MASTER, retired investment officer of Girard Trust Co. in Philadelphia, died Feb. 28, 1994, in Scranton, Penn. Bill went into banking after graduation and was with Girard all of his business life, until he retired in 1968 as a senior investment officer.

He came to Princeton from the Hill School and roomed with Ed Morsman. He played in the University Orchestra and the Banjo Club and was a member of Dial Lodge. Bill was ever a loyal member of the class and had roots in Princeton through his father, Henry B. Master 1895. Bill gave generously of his time to Presbyterian-related activities. He was an officer of the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, cider, and trustee. Bill also served the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia and was its president after it became Presbyterian-Univ. of Pennsylvania Medical Center.

Bill and Lucy Lair Reis married in Apr. 1935, and lived in Haverford, Penn., for many years. After Bill retired, they moved to Waverly, Penn., in Lackawanna County. There, Bill cared for Lucy, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, until her death in Nov. 1992. They are survived by their sons, William O. Jr. and John R. '60, and five grandsons. To all of them, we extend our profound sympathy on the death of this loyal, devoted classmate.
