William Robert McKim Jr. ’52

Body

BILL McKim died suddenly at his home in Marmora, N.J., on Mar. 1, 1993. He was the retired headmaster of the Foster School, a residential facility for retarded boys, which had been a focus of his career. For the past several years the school had been closed; the property was sold in June 1992.

Bill came to Princeton from Cannonsburg (Penn.) H.S. He majored in history, was chairman of the Orange Key society, and served on the undergraduate council and the university discipline committee. During his senior year, he roomed at Tiger Inn with Jack McCune, Jack Sheehy, Dick Talbot, John Schmid, and Bob Jiranek.

After graduation, Bill took a law degree at Harvard, and served his country ably as a naval officer aboard the U.S.S. MACON. At Harvard, he was a member of the Board of Governors of Lincoln's Inn Society and wrote for the HARVARD LAW SCHOOL RECORD. Years later, while headmaster, he received a masters degree in education for the mentally retarded from Rowan College of New Jersey.

While Bill cherished his Princeton roots, he had not attended recent reunions. He did stay in touch with friends and will be remembered as sensitive and funloving. His sense of humor was unique, and it never failed him in the company of those for whom he cared.

Bill is survived by a sister, his daughter Kimberly, and his son William 111. To his family we extend our sincere sympathy.
