William Russell Campbell ’29

Bill died in Cambridge, Mass., on May 30, 1989. He prepared for college at Pingry, and at Princeton he won freshman numerals in wrestling.

Bill left Princeton in the winter of 1927 and went into advertising. He worked at American Cyanamid from 1934 until 1940, when he became president of Campbell Greene & Co., a wholesale and retail dealer in hardware in Brattleboro, Vt. He continued to live in Brattleboro until he died. He was active in local affairs, including service on the Recreation Board, three terms on the Board of Selectmen, and membership in the Kiwanis, Masons, and Elks.

In 1934, Bill married Mary Fleming, who is now deceased. In 1958, he married Ethel Blodgett Darling, and she survives, along with his son, Anderson Fleming Campbell; a stepson, O. Leonard Darling; two stepdaughters, Patricia D. Paquin and Grace D. Grant; and his sister, Grace Hand. Bill's deceased brothers were Alfred S. '23 and Thomas H. '31. The class extends sincere sympathy to Bill's family.
