William Stuart Gorton Jr. ’41

Body

A LIFELONG BACHELOR, Bill died of a stroke alone in his Athens, Ga., home on Nov. 3, 1992.

Bill came to Princeton from Columbia High in Maplewood, N.J., the nation's first "milliondollar high school." Majoring in chemistry, he got his master's from Stanford and had an outstanding career in product development for Westinghouse, until his retirement in 1984. He became a staunch "regular" at our minireunions, including the Greek isle voyage. Because he had a particular interest in trains, he undertook many railway excursions in the U.S. and Europe.

Bill was the kind of man who had an amazing knowledge of how things "worked" and delighted in sharing this understanding with others. He also loved trees and took great joy in cultivating many varieties on his Athens property.

A brother, John Arthur '45, predeceased Bill. A bachelor nephew, John S., is a computer programmer and lives on a sailboat in San Diego Harbor. We extend our sympathy to him and to Bill's friends.
