William Sykes Shee ’41

Bill died March 30, 2010. A longtime resident of Woodbridge, Conn., he and his wife, Winetta (“Bebe”), had moved to Evergreen Woods in North Branford, Conn., in 1999.  

A graduate of the Taft School, he majored in psychology at Princeton and graduated with honors. Bill was circulation manager of the Tiger, a member of the Triangle Club Chorus, the Glee Club, and Cottage Club. His roommate was Jay Tschudy Jr.

His first job after graduation was with U.S. Rubber, but in November 1942, he joined Naval Air Combat Intelligence, serving three years at the Lakehurst (N.J.) Naval Air Station. A later assignment was at the Air Combat Intelligence School of Naval Air Station, Quonset Point.

After his service, Bill joined the Derby Sealers Division of 3M, before moving to the Oakville Division of Scovill in 1956 as sales manager.

In 1968, he started his own business, Signal Office Products Co., manufacturing office-supply items. In 1972, he started an additional business making components for sterile medical kits. Bill finally retired in 1989. In his retirement he kept busy with the Woodbridge library and Taft School alumni affairs.

Bill is survived by Bebe, his wife of 66 years; two sons, William Jr. and Robert; a daughter, Nancy; and grandchildren Jon, Emily, and Brian.
