William Westfall ’62

Body

BILL WESTFALL died Nov. 19, 1992, in Montclair, N.J., following an eightmonth battle with brain cancer.

Bill graduated from Montclair High, where he received the school's highest honor, the M.H.S. award. At Princeton, Bill majored in history and was a member of Cloister Inn. He was active in Orange Key, working on the staff of the WEEKENDER. Following graduation, he earned a master's in history at Columbia.

Except for two years in the Army, Bill's entire career was devoted to teaching at the secondary school level, starting at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut.

In 1971, Bill moved to Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, where he became social studies department chairman. In addition to teaching and departmental responsibilities, Bill coached baseball and soccer, and also served as adviser to the school newspaper. He remained at Reserve for the following 21 years but was unable to resume his duties this past fall.

Bill is survived by his father, Jim '27; his sister Carol; and his brother Jay '66; to whom the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
