William Wilberforce Woodward III ’28

Body

BILL WOODWARD died Sept. 21, 1992, at Grant Hospital, car his home in the suburbs of Columbus, Ohio. He prepared for college at Blair Academy. At Princeton, he majored in English, sang in the choir, and was a member of Arbor Inn.

After graduation, he worked in the insurance business in New York, earning the degree of certified life underwriter in1936. He was later in oil field equipment and paper box manufacturing. In 1960, he went into a consulting business in life insurance, securities investment, and financial planning. He continued with his customers in this field until his death but allowed himself an increasing amount of leisure time for such interests as history, genealogy, birdwatching, travel, and service as Class agent for Annual Giving and on the local Princeton Schools Committee.

He was a member and elder of the Parkside Presbyterian Church, was on the judicial commission of the synod, and was active in numerous historical societies and civic activities. He was a volunteer interpreter of birds in a nearby park and had a lifetime list of 600 sightings of different birds.

Bill married Isabelle Howell Demarest on Oct. 11, 1941. Their four sons were all graduates of Princeton: William IV '67, Richard C. '68, James D. '70, and the Rev. Thomas E. '72.

Bill had an unusual zest for living and enthusiasm for good causes, and we will miss his contagious promotion of Princeton's progress and his lively outreach of personal friendship. Our sympathy is with Isabelle, his children, eight grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild.
