AT THE AGE OF 79 and after a long illness, Bill died Dec. 4, 1992, at home in Perillyn, Penn. He was the son of William W Roper (L.L.D. U.Va. '02), who was a former varsity football coach at Princeton.

Bill graduated from Hotchkiss. At Princeton he majored in politics, played three years of freshman and varsity football, and was an undergraduate manager of Ivy Club.

During WWII, he served almost four years in the Navy, in ammunition supply and personal relations, retiring as a lieutenant.

During his retirement, he traveled extensively in the U.S. and in Europe.

He is survived by his widow, Katharine B.; sons William W. 111 '61, J. Gowen 11 '71; a daughter, Jane R. Jarisson; and eight grandchildren. Bill will be remembered for his warm personality and love for his Class and for Princeton. He was indeed a gentleman.
