Abraham Lincoln

(Oxford University Press) Marking the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth, McPherson’s brief biography covers Lincoln’s life story: from his birth in Kentucky, Ind., and his leadership of the anti-slavery movement, to his candidacy for president in 1860, and his role as commander in chief during the Civil War — all in 65 pages. McPherson also discusses why Lincoln remains a quintessential American hero. McPherson is the George Henry Davis ’86 Professor of History Emeritus at Princeton University and has published numerous volumes on the Civil War, including the Pulitzer-Prize winning Battle Cry of Freedom
