The child of academics who fled Germany during Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s, Hanna Holborn Gray *82 both studied and taught at prestigious universities and was the first woman provost of Yale. An Academic Life recounts Gray’s experience growing up as a refugee in America and being a woman in academia, while also offering her thoughts on universities, from their structure to balancing tradition and innovation.
