African American Doctors of World War I: The Lives of 104 Volunteers  is about the doctors who served in the only two black combat units of the U.S. Army before, during, and after World War I. Author W. Douglas Fisher ’59 served as an Army and Foreign Service Officer for 10 years, and was inspired to write the book by his grandfather’s letters and diaries from his time as an officer in one of the combat units.
