Kilometre) Entitled “The Intellect Stinks!” – a line from Williams’ poem “Hog Heaven” – this book contains Turkish translations of selections from Williams’ books of poetry tracing 40 years of his literary career. The book also includes an essay by Balikcioglu on Williams’ poetry and an interview. In 2009, Williams and Balikcioglu gave a bilingual reading in Istanbul, and Balikcioglu went on to translate more poems in a project that culminated in this book. Williams is a lecturer with the rank of professor in Creative Writing in Princeton’s Lewis Center for the Arts. Balikcioglu first met Williams after he won a prize from Princeton’s Creative Writing Program as a junior in high school; he was the first non-native English speaker to have won.
