(Harvard University Press) Gould traces America’s international relations from the Seven Years’ War to the Monroe Doctrine. He shows how the American Revolution was not only an attempt to gain liberty from the British, but also a bid for acceptance among the nations of the world. By examining the United States’ early interactions with other countries, Gould provides a deeper understanding of what the revolution meant. Gould is an associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire.
