(Duke University Press) Animation largely has been excluded from film theory; this collection of essays considers reasons for the marginalization of animated film, while bringing attention to key historical contributions across a wide range of animation practices, geographic and linguistic terrains, and historical periods. Beckman is a professor of cinema and modern media in the department of art history at the University of Pennsylvania.
