Augustine and the Jews: A Christian Defense of Jews and Judaism
(Doubleday)
The author traces the social and intellectual forces that led to Christian anti-Semitism. She shows how Augustine of Hippo (354–430) challenged anti-Semitism and his church. Augustine, writes Fredriksen, argued that Judaism and Christianity shared the same God and that Jews should not face Christian persecution. Fredriksen is a professor of scripture in the religion department at Boston University.
