Awake

(New Amsterdam Records) This second CD with six tracks by the chamber music group Now Ensemble, features compositions by ensemble members Judd Greenstein GS and Mark Dancigers GS, as well as commissioned work by Sean Friar GS. Dancigers also plays electric guitar. Other Now Ensemble members include Sara Budde on clarinet, Logan Coale on bass, Michael Mizrahi on piano, Alex Sopp on flute, and composer Patrick Burke. A critic for The Silent Ballet called Awake “truly a delightful experience from beginning to end.” The Classical Review wrote, “There’s an obvious challenge in the music’s mix of old, new and the exotic, and one that is rewarded by repeated listening as its interweaving of superficially contrary elements coalesce into something fresh and vibrant.”
