Behind the Moon
In Behind the Moon (City Lights Books) Madison Smartt Bell ’79 tells the story of Julie, who skips school on a camping trip in the desert and becomes the target of unwanted, drug-fueled sexual attention. She runs away in fear and falls into the shaft of a large underground cave. After being rescued, Julie hovers between life and death, traveling in a seductive parallel universe inspired by the cave paintings left behind by prehistoric humans.
