This book traces the history behind the creation of Texas through the perspective of the Tejanos of San Antonio de Béxar, who saw the Anglo-Americans as immigrants and the battle of the Alamo as a fight between brothers. The evolution of Tejanos’ cultural identify during this transitional period is explored as they face new pressures and competition, finally establishing a niche within the dominant American culture. Ramos is an assistant professor of history at the University of Houston.
