Villanova University Professor Vincent Lloyd ’03 offers new ways of understanding prominent African American leaders in his new book Black Natural Law (Oxford University Press). Lloyd argues that recent black leaders across the political spectrum have abandoned the connections between religious, philosophical, and political ideas that once enlivened black politics. Lloyd seeks to highlight the tradition of black natural law and use it as a tool to address the growing concerns over police violence, mass incarceration, and racial inequities facing America.
