Byzantium in the Iconoclast Era, c. 680-850: A History

(Cambridge University Press) Iconoclasm, the debate about the legitimacy of religious art, began in Byzantium in 720 and continued for nearly 120 years. In this book, Haldon and Brubaker survey this period and clarify complex issues of iconoclasm in Byzantium, setting the period firmly in its broader political and social-economic contexts. Haldon is a professor of history and Hellenic studies at Princeton University.
