A Centennial Celebration of The Brownies’ Book

With a print run from January 1920 to December 1921, The Brownies’ Book was the first magazine published for Black youth. Featuring contributions from Rudine Sims Bishop, Jani L. Barker, Paige Gray, and more, A Centennial Celebration of The Brownies’ Book (University Press of Mississippi) explores the impact the magazine had on the cultural life of Black America, focusing on both the good and bad of the landmark publication. In addition to essays of appreciation and analysis, the book includes reprints of the first and last full issues of the magazine.
