Frank Dole meets an otherworldly young woman on his usual morning fishing trip. What follows is a virtual treasure hunt  — with apparitions, obscure clues, false leads, and a cast of village characters who each hold a piece of a puzzle — before Dole is reunited with the mystery woman. A long-abandoned chapel on desolate moors acts as a cynosure for the author’s exploration of faith and politics in a small provincial village.
