This book explores the basic concepts and institutions of Muslim charity as well as different factors, including gender, age, social status, and historical circumstances, that contribute to dcharitable practices. Singer is a professor in the Department of Middle Eastern and African History and chair of the Women Studies Forum at Tel Aviv University.
