(CreateSpace) Portraying the rough and dying life of Chesapeake watermen, this novel follows the journey of Crowbar, an oyster-man, as he travels down the Bay through the winter looking for oyster bars — and his lost father. The novel also chronicles the stories of other watermen and their lives as they wait for the opening of Old Rock, the mythical oyster bed that would keep them going for another year. Hoffecker grew up not far from Chesapeake Bay, where he worked as a waterman for many years.
