Hershey, Pa., once an industrial community, was transformed into an affluent suburb thanks in part by the efforts of The Hershey Trust Co., a charity with more than $12 billion in its endowment. In Chocolate We Trust (University of Pennsylvania Press) tells the story of Peter Kurie *15’s return to Hershey, his hometown, to investigate a scandal surrounding allegations of misuse of the trust’s funds and his exploration of the trust’s outsized influence on the town.
