Sociologist Danielle Lindemann ’02 examines the growing phenomenon of married people living apart in order to pursue professional goals. Drawing on nearly 100 extensive interviews with commuter spouses (and personal experience from Lindemann’s own time spent long-distance from her husband), Commuter Spouses (Cornell University Press) assesses how traditional marriage ideals are adapted in these relationships to maintain intimacy even while living apart.
