(University of Pennsylvania Press) Based on long-term fieldwork, Conscientious Objectors in Israel tells the story of Israelis who have refused to perform military service for reasons of conscience. In so doing, Weiss examines the nature of contemporary citizenship, exposing the sacrificial logic of the modern-nation state. Weiss teaches anthropology at Tel Aviv University.
