The cosmic web is a theory of the structure of the universe, which proposes that the universe looks like a sponge, made up of clusters of galaxies that are connected by galaxy filaments. J. Richard Gott *73, one of the first to propose this theory, writes about the process in which he and others developed it in The Cosmic Web (Princeton University Press).
