Currency and Contest in East Asia: The Great Power Politics of Financial Regionalism

(Cornell University Press) After the Asian financial crisis of 1997-1998, East Asian countries transformed the regional financial architecture to make themselves less vulnerable to global financial markets. The author provides an analysis of the evolution of financial regionalism in East Asia, and argues that financial regionalism can best be understood as one arena for competition among Japan, the United States, and China. Grimes is an associate professor of international relations at Boston University.
