Decoding the U.S. Corporate Tax
(The Urban Institute Press) The author examines longstanding problems with the corporate tax code, which has been in place since 1909. Shaviro brings to light the imperfections of the tax system given today’s more complex financial instruments and the emergence of a global economy. He describes tax code features that lead to inconsistent taxation of similar entities and financial instruments. And he explores possible changes to the tax code. Shaviro is the Wayne Perry Professor of Taxation at New York University School of Law and considered among the nation’s leading legal scholars on tax policy.
