Designing Resilience: Preparing for Extreme Events

(University of Pittsburgh Press) In an increasingly complicated and interconnected world, the consequences caused by an extreme event (severe climatic events and terrorist acts) could be catastrophic. In this book, the editors compile case studies of extreme events and study how various actors — from all levels of government down to individuals — responded effectively, or, in some cases, ineffectively. The book also examines resilience at different stages of disaster management, while also looking for ways to create resilient systems from the ground up.
