Dialogue Between Faith and Reason
(Cornell University Press) Smith traces a major line in the history of theology and the philosophy of religion down the “slippery slope” of secularization — from Luther to Derrida. He argues that faith and reason have long been locked in mutual engagement in which they challenge each other in an ongoing “dialogue.” Smith is a professor of German at the University of California, Irvine.
