Dreams from the Monster Factory: A Tale of Prison, Redemption, and One Woman’s Fight to Restore Justice to All

(Scribner) This book tells the story of Sunny Schwartz’s work in the criminal justice system and how she is helping to transform the San Francisco jails and the criminals incarcerated. After attending law school and working in the criminal justice system, Schwartz quickly became disheartened by the prisons, which she calls “monster factories” because they foster violence, rage, and, ultimately, better criminals. In 1997, she established the Resolve to Stop the Violence Project for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. David Boodell works in television as a writer, producer, cameraman, and series supervising producer for nonfiction programming.
