Faith Makes Us Live: Surviving and Thriving in the Haitian Diaspora

(University of California Press) Mooney explores the challenges that Haitians face in three case study cities (Miami, Montreal, and Paris), each of which responds differently to immigrants, the poor, and people of color. She looks specifically at the intersection of religion and immigration, examining the role of the Catholic Church in immigrant incorporation. Mooney is an assistant professor of sociology and faculty fellow of the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
