Fictional Religion: Keeping the New Testament New

(Polebridge Press) The author examines how writers of fiction from Chaucer to C.S. Lewis have taken the Christian doctrine they inherited and applied both its formal tenets and its spirit to the intellectual needs, social contexts, and cultural biases of their age. By exploring their works, the author finds insights into the Christian doctrine. Spencer is professor of English at St. Louis Community College.
